image1Vanessa Hensel – I grew up in Meaford & started skating with the Meaford Skating Club since the age of 4. During my skating career I accomplished 3 Gold levels: Dance, Skills & Interpretive along with Senior Silver Free Skate. After High School, I went to Fanshawe College where I graduated from the Fitness & Health Promotion program as well as the Recreation & Leisure Program. I also became a Certified Personal Trainer & Fitness Instructor. Soon after graduating I moved back home and continued to pursue my love for Figure Skating. I became a Certified Can Skate Coach as well as a Level 1 Certified Skating Coach and have been working with the Meaford Skating Club since 2009. I love watching the kids learn and have fun!

KarenKaren came to us after leaving the Whistler BC Skating Club as her family settled in the Blue Mountains. She has an old style way of coaching with a new-school attitude. She demands and receives respect from her skaters by combining discipline with good fun, a positive attitude and sense of style.

Karen is also the club coach for the Beaver Valley Skating Club where she teaches figure skating and power skating. She has been overseeing Ice Show at both Meaford Skating Club and BVSC working with volunteers and the communities.

Karen writes, “My motivation is to introduce the sport of figure skating to skaters of all ages and abilities and to encourage and inspire every skater to set and achieve personal goals in a fun, safe and positive environment.”

Karen’s enthusiam, hard work and dedication to the skaters of the Meaford Skating Club has truly been a valuable asset and we look forward to a great season!

Mary HardieDuring eight years of amateur training I accomplished many Skate Canada test levels, 1960 Novice Ladies Champion for Western Ontario Section and a life-long thirst and love for my chosen sport.

In 1973 I became a professional skater traveling with the Ice Capades and Las Vegas on Ice for 5 years touring throughout Canada, USA and Japan.

From 1978-2015 I have been coaching skaters for 38 years in North Dakota, Minnesota and Ontario in levels ranging from Canskate thru to Seniors, Precision, Power Skating and Competitive Skaters. 37 years of coaching 206 students and 8 skaters went to All Ontario Championships, 2 to the Canadian Division equaling over 45 medals.

Continuing my education I became a Level 3 Coach in National Certification program in 1997 and have attended “the Seminar” at the Mariposa International School of Skating for many years.

My career highlight fell into my lap in 1985. “The Magic Wardrobe” was produced in Owen Sound staring Toller Cranston, The Georgian Bay Symphony and the local skating club. I had the honor of writing and directing this extravaganza with the help from a dedicated and talented group.

In 1986 I choreographed Christmas routines for local skaters who showcased in the Nice and Easy Celebration of Ice that was hosted by Josee Chouinard.
I have also directed many local productions with the help of volunteers within the community.

Caring for kids through skating, helping them to grow into whole and healthy youth has been my privilege and my reward.
