Coaching & Programming
Coaching is available from:
Vanessa Hensel – vhensel.pt@gmail.com
Kim Yzerman - kimyzerman@gmail.com
There are two (2) stroking lessons/week included in your registration fee. Each lesson is 15 minutes in length. The stroking sessions are on Tuesdays and Fridays and will be taught on a rotational basis by Vanessa, and Kim. All skaters on the ice are to participate in these lessons. Due to time constraints, private lessons may be taught during the stroking session. Timing of individual lessons will be rotated to ensure each skater takes a turn having a lesson during the stroking session and it isn’t the same skater missing stroking each week.
Music
It is important that all skaters have the opportunity to skate to their music, including solo, artistic, skills, and dance. Please show all skaters at all levels the same respect regarding their music. Please note that session specific music, and students in lesson will take priority.
If parents are at the arena, it is always greatly appreciated by the coaches, and skaters if someone can play the music; this helps ensure everyone gets their music on. We would encourage you to take a turn at this if you are able. Just ask the coaches how you can help.
Communication
All communication will be sent to parents/skaters via email. This includes all newsletters, special event notices, and general club communication. In an effort to do our part for the environment, we are going green. Therefore paper copies will not be given out.
It is the parents’ responsibility to share the information with their child. If your child wishes to receive notifications at their own email address as well, please provide their email address to the club at meafordskatingclub@gmail.com.
The Meaford Skating Club can also be found on Facebook and we have a website meafordskating.com

Fundraising is really important for the existence of the Meaford Skating Club. In order to keep registration costs down, we have to all pull together and do our part to fundraise each year to offset projected deficits.
Here are a few of our major fundraisers that you can help with;
• Annual Apple Harvest Craft Show – we are in need of volunteers for security over night as well as door volunteers during the day. Friday October 2 – Sunday October 4. Did you know that the Meaford Skating Club staffs the ticket booth and overnight security at the Craft Show each year? You might ask yourself why we do it. Each year when we staff the ticket booths and the security the Craft Show donates $2400 to the skating club. That’s amazing!
• Basket of Cheer Lotto – fall fundraiser. Each parent sells tickets/provides product. Volunteer hours will be awarded – 2 hours for each book of 20 tickets sold & 1 hour for alcohol donation.
• Lutz Skate fun competition – date TBA (late February)
- Ice Show
If you have a preference of times please make sure that you sign up early.
Who do I talk to about concerns with the program?
If you have any concerns with your skaters progress or any other element of the program please feel free to talk with any member of the Executive or your child’s coach.
Our club has an email address for all inquiries, please feel free to contact us at any time.

*Skaters and Parents MUST sign the Skater and Parent Code of Conduct before the first night of skating. Failure to do so will result in your skating being delayed.
Looking forward to seeing you at the rink!
